Why Book an Orkney Summer Break in June & July?

June and July are the finest months to visit Orkney. The famous Simmer Dim — Orkney’s long northern twilight — keeps the skies glowing until nearly midnight. Average temperatures reach a comfortable 15–17°C, wildflowers carpet the clifftops, and puffins nest along the coastal headlands. Summer is also prime season for whale watching off the Orkney coast and walking the West Mainland’s dramatic clifftop paths.

This is peak season for a reason: Orkney in summer is genuinely extraordinary. Book early to secure your dates with our 15% off offer before availability closes.

🐾 Pet owners — we’re a pet-friendly hotel in Orkney. Well-behaved pets are welcome in selected rooms. Please mention your pet when booking.
🥾 Walkers — direct access to the Stromness coastal path and the Hoy Hills ferry from the town pier. Walking in Orkney →
👨‍👩‍👧 FamiliesSkara Brae, one of the UK’s best family holiday destinations, is less than 20 minutes away.
💑 Couples — harbour-view rooms, candlelit dinners at the Scapa Flow Restaurant, and some of the most dramatic sunsets in the British Isles.

A Harbour-Side Hotel at the Heart of Orkney

The Stromness Hotel sits in the heart of Stromness, Orkney’s second-largest town, overlooking the historic harbour on the edge of Scapa Flow. Built in 1901 and lovingly restored, the hotel combines original Victorian character with modern comfort — 42 en-suite rooms, including our harbour-view rooms, several with direct sea and harbour views, and the warmth of genuine Orcadian hospitality.

As a Stromness harbour hotel, we’re ideally placed for everything Orkney has to offer: five minutes from the NorthLink ferry terminal, eight miles from Skara Brae, and a short drive from the Ring of Brodgar, the Italian Chapel, and the Churchill Barriers.
