Stromness comes alive this May as the Orkney Folk Festival 2026 returns from 21 to 24 May, bringing four days of music, community spirit and island celebration to Orkney. More than half of the festival programme will take place in Stromness, festival events will also be held in locations such as Kirkwall, Hoy and Finstown.
Located by the Pierhead, close to the ferry terminal and the heart of town, The Stromness Hotel’s café, The Flattie in a Teacup, and Scapa Flow Restaurant offer convenient places to pause, meet, dine and enjoy the festival atmosphere.
A Festival Weekend Full of Music, Culture and Community
The 43rd Orkney Folk Festival brings together 52 acts from Orkney, Scotland, Ireland, England, Finland, Canada and the USA. The 2026 programme includes 53 events across the islands, celebrating both traditional and contemporary folk music. Festivalgoers can look forward to:

Plan Your Journey to Stromness
One of the most direct routes is the ferry from Scrabster to Stromness. You can also fly into Kirkwall Airport and continue by road. The Stromness Hotel is conveniently located by the Pierhead.
